Turkey hit the headlines last month after becoming the first country where a freight deal was settled using the popular cryptocurrency Bitcoin.

The transaction was conducted last month on a shipping vessel carrying wheat from Russia to Turkey.

Turkey has now achieved yet another first in the world of cryptocurrency. Harunustaspor – A Turkish Football club – completed a transfer using Bitcoin to pay the transfer fee.

Harunustaspor paid 0.0524 Bitcoin plus 2,500 Turkish Lira to sign Omer Faruk Kiroglu.

Club president Haldun Sehit shed light on the unique transfer deal deal.

“This is a first in Turkey and the world, we are proud of this achievement and know it will raise our profile here [Turkey], internationally and among the community [crypto],” Sehit stated.

Kiroglu went onto state that he is honoured to have taken part in the deal ushing Bitcoin deal.

“I hope it works out for both sides. It is a first for myself, a first in the world. It is an honour and as the boss said it is innovative. This is the future. As someone open to new technology it made sense.”
