Since Apple’s summer announcement of the HomePod speaker, many have been eagerly awaiting its release so that they can experience Apple’s long awaited dip into the high end speaker market. The HomePod was expected to be released in time for the Christmas holiday season, however Apple released a statement this week to report that the speaker will not be ready until early 2018.
The HomePod will be compatible with AirPlay 2 – Apple’s protocol that will allow multiple speakers to communicate to each other throughout the house to create a Sonos like setup. Siri will also be included in the HomePod and will work even when your music is playing at full volume thanks to the HomePods advanced six-microphone array setup. Siri will also allow the speaker to integrate with Apple’s HomeKit, meaning commands such as “Hey Siri, turn on the lights” will turn on your HomeKit compatible lighting. In terms of audio quality, Apple are touting the HomePod as a best in class audio experience that automatically adjusts to deliver the highest fidelity sound, no matter where in the room its placed. We look forward to trying the HomePod speaker in 2018 and seeing how it compares with the likes of Bose and Sonos.
