Ever wondered what lightning looks like filmed on a £100,000 camera at 1000fps – ‘Transient’

It’s not often that we are completely mesmerised by a video uploaded to the internet but the short film named ‘Transient’ – from photographer and filmmaker Dustin Farrell – is an awe-inspiring watch.

Farrell spent the summer chasing lightning with a slightly pricy £100,000 Phantom Flex4K high-speed camera which allowed him to film lightning at 1000 frames per second.

“My respect and admiration for storm chasers became even stronger this year,” Farrell stated.

“This is one of the most difficult projects I have ever attempted in my career. On several occasions I found myself uncomfortable either mentally or physically.

“There were at least 10 days where I returned home with my tail between my legs and nothing to show after a ten hour chase and 500 miles. There were also a couple of days that I drove home with an ear to ear smile that lasted for hours.”

Farrell must of had a couple spare external hard drives laying around as he captured an incredible 10 terabytes of data in creating this 3-minute visual experience.
