Plans were revealed today to pedestrianise London’s Oxford Street in a move that will be welcomed by millions of Londoners across the city. There is also hope that this move will coincide with the launch of the new Elizabeth line services to encourage less drivers to drive through the busy district. There is concern around how the move will cause an increase in traffic in the surrounds streets of Oxford Street, however consultations have already begun to pedestrianise the section towards Tottenham Court Road.
Oxford Street has seen many ups and downs in recent years as it continues to be a thriving shopping district. Pedestrianising Oxford Street will help make it a more pleasurable place to visit and will be a vital step in London reducing its pollution.
