Garmin is back with with an updated design for its Vivoactive lineup with what is set to be a very popular smartwatch. Gone is the rectangle design of old and in is a circular design akin to Garmin’s Fenix flagship range. If you are buying a smartwatch primarily for fitness, then you can do no better than Garmin, however the Vivoactive 3 promises to reach out to everyone with its enhanced smartwatch capabilities.
Where other popular smartwatches such as the Apple Watch are a smartwatch with fitness features, Garmin’s watches are fitness watches that have slowly and successfully incorporated smartwatch features. The Garmin Vivoactive 3 bridges the gap of smartwatch and fitness watch closer than ever before and is a worthy alternative to the Apple Watch. The Garmin Vivoactive 3 sits in the middle of Garmin’s 2017/2018 line up and is ideal for people who want the functionality and design of the Fenix 5 range without the £500 price tag. The Garmin Vivoactive 3 has the majority of the features that the Fenix 5 series has however the Vivoactive 3 has done away with most of its buttons and opted for a touchscreen which is very responsive. The other main difference between the two ranges of Garmin’s smartwatches is now capable of wireless payments with the inclusion of Garmin Pay.
The Garmin Vivoactive 3 is a very lightweight smartwatch, in fact you may even forget its on your wrist at times. You can interact with the Vivoactive 3 through the touchscreen, its one button on the side and through the new swipe feature on the side bezel. All three of these work very well in practise however you may find little use for the swipe on the bezel feature due to how well the touchscreen works. We do expect this feature to be added to Garmin’s non touchscreen devices such as the Fenix range.
Battery life is stated by Garmin to last up to 7 days however this will depend on individual usage and in particularly the usage of the GPS. The Garmin Vivoactive 3 also has access to Garmin’s App Store where you can download additional watch faces and 3rd party apps such as Uber which add more functionality to your smartwatch. The Garmin Vivoactive 3 is a formidable smartwatch that shows Garmin as a genuine competitor to all other smartwatches on the market and comes highly recommend from the team at Wave.
